Garry JenningsDear Colleagues,

Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute in collaboration with Elsevier is delighted to hold the second Asia Pacific Conference on the Metabolic Syndrome (APCMS) with the theme "Asian Perspectives on a Global Health Challenge" from 6 to 7 November 2010 in the vibrant city-state of Singapore.

Following the success of the inaugural event in Melbourne, we are encouraged by the level of participation from specialists, general physicians and healthcare professionals to continue developing an educational programme that remains current and relevant to the populations that we treat and the multi-factorial dynamics of the metabolic syndrome. Whilst there are ongoing appraisals of the syndrome definitions, it is important that clinicians continue to be engaged in furthering their understanding of the condition.

With these objectives in mind, APCMS 2010 will feature state-of-the-art lectures and dynamic debates by a renowned faculty of experts in sessions poised to address the latest clinical needs and help inform clinical practice by active exchange of evidence and ideas. We hope that physicians from across the Asia Pacific will also take the opportunity to interact, network and build collaborations at the APCMS 2010.

We would like to invite you to join us in Singapore for the APCMS 2010 and look forward to your valued participation.

Prof Garry JENNINGS
Honorary Advisor, APCMS 2010
Director, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, Australia

Paul Zimmet One of the most challenging health problems facing the world today is the cardiometabolic syndrome arising from the combined impact of obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. It is important for physicians and health care providers to understand the nature of this modern epidemic, its consequences to individual patients and health services and effective strategies to prevent, delay and manage disease progression.

It is my great pleasure on behalf of the local organizing committee to invite and welcome you to the second APCMS, to be held from 6–7 November 2010. The first meeting in Melbourne, Australia last year was a success and paved the way for further scientific discussions on this important health problem. This meeting will bring together many experts from around the Asia Pacific region to exciting Singapore.

It is my hope that this meeting will firmly establish the APCMS as the main forum in the Asia Pacific region for exchange of the latest opinions and research in the cardiometabolic syndrome.

We look forward to welcoming you in Singapore.
